Over 15 million Americans, adults and children are living with severe, life threatening food allergies and the numbers are rising. The national systems are fractured: there is no standard food allergy definition, test, treatment, intervention nor are there national mandated regulations. Once diagnosed, vulnerable clients are thrown deeper into chaos of what is real, what is imagined, how can they protect themselves from exposure. When clients they seek help, mental health professionals are similarly unclear. In this presentation, participants will come to understand the current food allergy landscape, become familiar with the food allergic client’s experience and learn actionable tools to use immediately with food allergic clients to help alleviate their suffering. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion at the end.

Presenter: Sloane Miller, MFA, MSW, LMSW, specialist in food allergy management and author, is founder and President of Allergic Girl Resources, Inc., a consultancy devoted to food allergy awareness. She consults with private clients, the healthcare, food and hospitality industries, government and not-for-profit advocacy organizations.
